But, he was nearly as happy with the PG48 going through the Behringer mixer with its onboard cathedral reverb preset. I think the sound he liked most was with the AT3035 using an abandoned nuclear reactor impulse (can't recall where I downloaded the impulse from) through ReaVerb. I've recorded him through his wireless stage mic (I think it's a Shure), a vocal stage dynamic (Shure PG48), and a large diaphragm cardioid condenser mic (Audio-Technica AT3035). I have recorded him several different ways and he is generally easy to please regarding the sound. Lucky for you I have some amateur experience with this because we have a sax player in our band. Anyway, I'd be happy to check out your recording if you wish. But, really the graphic EQ is for adjusting the sound of your PA speaker system when performing live.

You will have to consult your mixer's owner manual to determine if the RCA output is prior to the 5-band graphic EQ if you want to utilize that EQ.

Just match the output option to the input option. They will just be at different signal levels (-10dBV for RCA/+4 dBu for Line outs). If you like the sound of the pre-amp and EQ better than straight to the interface then use it.Īnother reason you should not record with the effects is that there is no compressor on your mixer and compression pretty much always goes before other creative and special effects like chorus or reverb.Ģ. But, in my opinion, the preamp is not likely to add much of anything special and the 2-band channel EQ is not a great option (most mixers use a 3-band eq). You may be able to take advantage of both at the same time by recording the FX send which would be prior to the on board FX processor and possible before the EQ as well.

If you did not also record a clean take then you are stuck with the chorus or you must try to recreate that moment by recording another take. For example, you played the perfect take in a moment of inspiration and then you decide you don't want the chorus effect on there anymore. But, when recording anything extra in you cannot take it back out, especially FX. You may want to record through the mixer specifically for the sound of the pre-amp and the EQ.

I honestly prefer the onboard reverb of my band's Behringer EURODESK SX3242FX 32 channel mixer to that of all the free reverb vst's I tried. Some are usable, but I personally could not find one I was satisfied with. Many if not most free vst reverbs are not very good. VST effects are fantastic and many free ones will rival or better any onboard fx processor and channel EQ in a consumer live sound mixer. Then output the clean recording through the mixer effects if you like the way they sound, and prefer the ease of use of hardware eq knobs. I recommend that you record clean without the mixer. I personally prefer to keep my options open. There is not a wrong way as long as you can get the sound that you like.ġ. This is very much a personal preference situation. If using Tape out I found EQ is not in OUT way. Personally, I guess there is nothing wrong with using mixer for digital recording.Īlso, if the answer is YES for using mixer, should I use TAPE out or Main out from mixer to Lambda? Using Main allows to use EQ. The PROFX4 v2 sounds great and have new preamps like BIG Mackies.

Is use of mixer in my case is normal/right approach from making Software recordings perspective? Then I can always try to "play" a bit with may be VST compressor and EQ if needed. So adjusting EQ and Hardware effect will be more native for me. Or just to connect mike straight to Lambda and then "play" with VSTs. In this case I can use build in Reverb (there are couple of really good effects) and EQ that is good too.

does it worth to use the mixer for mike recording. Have couple of questions for doing things right/recommended way.įor the recording, in Reaper I insert Media File (my playback in MP3 format).ġ. I have Lexicon Lambda interface, AT2035 mike and just purchased compact Mackie ProFX v2 that has good effects and 5 band EQ on board (no USB interface).
